Greeting from the Head of Administration

Dear visitor!

Welcome to the hospitable city of Ufa, the capital of the multinational Bashkortostan!

Our city is situated on the banks of the Belaya (Agidel), Ufa (Karaidel) and Dyoma (Dim) rivers, and always glad to see new guests. Current Ufa used to be a large and wealthy town in ancient times, but the official history of the city has started in 1574, when a fortress was established here. Ufa has developed a unique image and distinct identity over its centuries-long history, becoming a perfect balance of modernity and olden spirit.

As the capital of a region situated at the border of Europe and Asia, Ufa serves as a meeting point of Eastern and Western mindsets. This peculiarity explains the city’s openness to constructive dialogue, effective and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Ufa’s architecture is noted for combining various styles and traditions. There are a few samples of architecture dating back to the age of classicism, such as Church of the Intercession, Saviour’s Church, Governor’s House, former Hall of the Nobility, Vladimir Ulyanov (Lenin) House Museum, Sergei Aksakov’s House-Museum, Mikhail Nesterov’s house-museum.

Museums of the city are always ready to offer original displays of the past and the present, including the world-famous exhibition Golden Deer of Eurasia.

The courts which still remember the childhood years of Sergei Aksakov, Sergei Dovlatov and Vladimir Spivakov; the building of the Bashkir State Opera and Ballet Theaters which had seen the rise of the world-known figures of Fyodor Shalyapin and Rudolf Nureyev; the streets that inspired songs of Yuri Shevchuk and Zemfira – everything foams with youth in the city. The talented youth come upon the stages of the local theaters and Philharmonic Hall side by side with recognized masters.

The best known landmarks of Ufa are the Monument of Friendship and the monument to Bashkir national hero Salavat Yulaev, the latter sculpture being the largest equestrian statue in Russia. These monuments attest to the centuries-old tradition of interethnic friendship and concord between the ethnicities inhabiting the Republic of Bashkortostan and its capital.
