VII Winter International Children's Games

Competitions were held in Innsbruck (Austria) from 12 to 15 January 2016. Ufa was presented in four sports by 16 athletes aged 12-14: young skiers, snowboarders, speed skaters and biathletes.

In total, the program of ICG includes eight sports: alpine skiing, biathlon, cross country skiing, snowboarding, freestyle skiing, speed skating, ice hockey and figure skating. Delegations from 54 cities of 22 countries participated in the Games. Apart from Ufa, Russia was also presented by Novouralsk and Petrozavodsk.

Almaz Valiev (biathlon) won gold medal in the first day of competition by beating over 20 athletes in sprint. Kirill Ped won silver in snowboard cross. Yana Valieva won bronze medal in the same discipline.

The second day of the VII Winter International Children's Games in Innsbruck brought two more medals to Ufa team. Tatiana Grishina won gold medal in parallel slalom among mixed teams, while Alexander Galiakbarov became second.

The third day resulted in three medals. Alpine skiers Alexander Galiakbarov and Elizaveta Vorobyova competing in ski cross took first and third places respectively. Biathlete Almaz Valiev was second in the mixed relay.

Thus, Ufa athletes brought home eight medals: 3 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze.

During the closing ceremony on January 15 the symbolic torch was handed over to the city of New Taipei (Taiwan), which will host Summer International Children's Games this year.
