24-year-old Russian fencer Timur Safin has brought a fifth medal for the Russian side on 2016 summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Currently, he is in favor of the sports school of Olympic reserve in fencing of the city of Ufa, which raised him.

His success became a pleasant surprise for our team, because in men’s individual foil Russians initially expected the success of our other sportsman, whose name is Artur Akhmatkhuzin, who placed third on 2 world championships in a row before. However, he lost to the American Alexander Massialas on the stage of 1/8 with the score 9:15.

On the Olympic tournament Safin successively beat  A. Cheremisin from Russia, J.Davis, GBR and C.Haiwei, China.  Unfortunately, in the semifinal he did not manage to defeat the Italian D.Garozzo, to whom he lost 9:15. But in the match for the bronze against the experienced British veteran Richard Kruse he won with the score 15:13. What is more, the final touch was made with a minimum gap in the score of 14:13 at the end of the duel.

This is the first Olympic medal in the career of the sportsman, which he called “the most precious”.
